About me

Sweet World - Blossom Sugar

Nowadays, weddings are increasingly organized with uniqueness in mind. Couples have a growing demand for decorative products and service providers who get to know them and bring their vision to life. In the spirit of refined taste, the goal is for the venue decoration, the bride's dress, bouquet, wedding cake, and dessert table to all be in harmony. Not least, nature-inspired weddings are coming to the forefront, often with the requirement of finding the most environmentally friendly solution for everything. In such cases, silk flowers are simply not an option.

When it comes to wedding cakes, sugar flowers offer a special alternative. These are individually crafted handmade products that, on one hand, serve as decorations and can even be preserved in a display case after the wedding, and on the other hand, if the couple doesn't wish to keep them as a memento, they can be eaten without any concern. Thanks to food-grade decorating powder dyes, they look strikingly similar to real flowers.

Who am I?

My name is Orsolya Smuk-Komádi, a mother of two wonderful children and a lover of sugar flowers.

The idea of learning how to make flowers first came to me when I was planning my own wedding. I was determined that only edible flowers could go on the cake. Unfortunately, in 2017, most patisseries clearly stated that they were not willing to make such things, and they had no supplier for them either.
A few months after the wedding, I was already sitting in my first course, where I learned the basics of flower making. Although I desperately wanted to create fantastic, lifelike flowers like the masters of the craft, success did not come easily.

The first attempts were all about getting acquainted — learning the nature of sugar paste, as well as the painting and assembly techniques. In 2020, the time finally came when I could dedicate time to this learning process. After my son was born, I spent the already sleepless nights practicing. One flower followed another; taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the internet, I took my first steps guided by online videos.
In the interest of more serious progress, I soon decided to enter a few online competitions (unfortunately, live competitions were being cancelled one after another in the shadow of COVID). I prepared my first bouquets with great enthusiasm — they were a huge challenge and of course far from perfect, but they provided motivation to keep learning.

About me

Over the past years, I have entered several international competitions and achieved some fine results. At the Cake International online competition, I earned a silver and a bronze distinction. For me, however, the evaluation sheet itself was the most important thing — from it I could learn which direction to develop in, what was good and what was not.
For me, flower-making has grown into a lifestyle. Even a few days' break comes with withdrawal symptoms. :)
I love putting my personality into my work, while at the same time striving to ensure that whoever receives it can also find themselves in it. I consider myself a fundamentally creative person; I enjoy trying out new techniques, and challenges push me to bring out even more from myself. Sugar flower making combines several crafts: floristry, botany, photography, painting... they are all part of the whole.

I eagerly look forward to new challenges, and you can view my work on my social media pages.
